Today I drove to school. Terry helped me navigate from home to the school AND figure out what the GPS was telling me. It's a little more difficult when it's all in Korean! Plus, everything is in meters here. I'm really trying to pay attention to everything around me so I can figure out where I am by landmarks. But let's face it, this place is crazy! There's all sorts of people on the streets, cars and trucks dashing in and out of your lane and you can turn left on a red light. It's like facing suicide every time you get in the car. As if it couldn't be more difficult, I've got 3 kids in the back seat gawking out the windows and fighting over whether that was a gas station we just passed. Little do they realize there's gas stations, LPG stations and all sorts of other places I can't even figure out because I don't read Korean.
I know I will be able to drive once I've driven the route to and from a few times. It's a matter of getting your bearings. I can't even tell you north, south, east or west. I can find the park, the g-mart, the little mom and pop shop for break time, and the small grocery store down the street if we're desperate for something. And all those places we found while walking. I'd hate to get lost here. At least I've got a cell phone to call Jessica and Terry if I need them. But there too, the phone is all in Korean. If I miss a call, I can't read who it was.
